This is also an important factor in good park design – there is nothing more boring than a park or green space where you can immediately see everything that is there.

People who are only there ‘to watch the world go by’ will want to be further away from others than those who are hoping to have some kind of casual interaction, who in turn would be further away than those who are interacting with close friends. A good public space will offer the chance for the whole range of these activities to occur and this has implications for the arrangement of places to sit or linger.
